CryptoCorner: Cutting Edge Cryptozoology From Around the WorldBy Garth GuessmanIn our February meeting I gave an overview of worldwide cryptozoology1 as well as an update on the trip that Dr. William Gibbons2 took in November 2000 to Africa in search of crypto-creatures.3 Today I will give a brief country-by-country cryptozoological survey from all over the world ending in Cameroon Africa, from where Dr. Gibbons has just returned from his fourth trip. In North America multiple reports of pterodactylsa have come from the Sonora, Mexico area all the way to Mesa, Arizona in the U.S.4 The residents of Lake Champlain and other North American lakes have reported and photographed living plesiosaursb swimming in lakes, and occasionally raising their long necks out of the water.5 Fairly recently Lake Erie had a small dead plesiosaurb (about 18 inches long) wash upon shore. A local taxidermist "stuffed" it. Dr. Baugh, a cryptozoologist and director of the Creation Evidence Museum in Glenn Rose, Texas, bought it from him and is having authenticity studies (c.a.t. scans. X-rays, DNA tests, etc.) done on it.5 A terrifying plesiosaurb encounter occurred in 1969 with five scuba divers off the coast of Pensacola, Florida. The plesiosaur, whose neck stood ten feet above the water, attacked and killed four of the five divers.5&14 Reports of plesiosaursb have been coming from the British Isles for more than a century. A T.V. documentary called "Mysteries of the Deep", aired on the Discovery Channel, P.B.S., et al shows multiple witnesses who tell of plesiosaur sightings and encounters. In South America more than fifty passengers aboard a commercial airliner reported seeing a pterodactyl c flying over the Amazon jungle of Brazil. Comparing it to the width of the large jungle trees, they estimated the wingspan to be twenty feet.4 Reports of a bipedal theropod,d like an allosaurus, have come from Bolivia.6 North Australia also has reports of people who have seen theropodedinosaurs.6One description was of a "bipedal reptile, 7-8 meters (25 feet) tall, moving through the scrub near Lagoon Creek on the Gulf Coast…"7&8 Recently there have been numerous sightings of plesiosaursf in Australian waters. Boy, I hope this results in some video footage! Papua New Guinea (P.N.G.), a real crypto-hot-spot, has produced sightings, from natives and visitors alike. Sightings include sauropods,g&6 hadrosaurs,h,6,&10 and, of course, rhamphorincus pterodactyls.i&12 Dr. Carl Baugh has permits from the P.N.G. government to capture four live pterodactyls and export them back to the U.S. for study.11 He will go as soon as God supplies funding. Indonesia also has reports of pterodactyls.j The natives call them orang-bati, meaning man with wings.13 The next crypto-creature has been filmed with crystal-clear photography. I personally saw it aired on Discovery Channel a couple of years ago. Believe it or not, mammoths are alive and well in Nepal. The specific specie of mammoth is probably the stegadon. By the way, the African elephant is no longer the world's largest land animal. The Nepalese mammoth now officially takes that place. That is, at least until we can document a large dinosaur on film, or capture one and put it in a zoo! People of Nepal have also reported a giant fifty-foot snakel that is six feet in diameter. They call it the snake dragon.13 Both Kenya and Congo Africa have reported that stegosaursm are a part of their faunae.6&17 The kongamato of Kenya, and the olitu (over whelmer of boats) of Zambia and Zimbabwe are said to be pterodactyls.j These two pterosaurs might be a single specie that occupies a vast area of Africa's interior.14&15 The emela ntoukan (killer of elephants) of the Congo and the Central African Republic is similar in shape to a tnceratops, but it has no bony neck frill and no brow horns. However, it does have a large nose horn, and lives in rivers, like a hippo does.16 This animal is completely unknown to the fossil record, and would be considered a new kind of dinosaur. Perhaps the most famous crypto-creature of all is mokele-mbembeo in Congo Africa. This is a sauropodo about 30 feet long (head to tail), with an elephant-size body.16&17 In 1983 the first and only fossil baryonyx was found in England. It was 34 feet long and had a predominately bigger claw on each of its forelimbs. Paleontotogists have speculated that the large claw was probably used to catch fish. On Dr. Gibbons third African trip to Cameroon in November 2000, he received a report of a "dog-size" baryonyxp dinosaur, and guess what it was doing? It was fishing at the edge of a river.6 Cameroon also has the ngoubou,q which is a true ceratopsian:q complete with an armored neck frill and four horns. Again, there is no representative in the fossil record. So I am giving it the name'' quadraceratops". Interestingly, the natives can tell if it is male or female by the shape of its bony frill.6 On Dr. Gibbon's forth trip to Cameroon, he and the Discovery Channel crew documented natives on video giving eye-witness testimony of living dinosaurs and other crypto-creatures. This will be aired on Discovery Channel later in 2001.
If you read the April issue of Creation in the Crossfire, the book review of Dinosaurs by Design mentions that the fossil evidence of apatosaurus (an animal just like mokele mbembe) shows that it grew to about 76 feet in overall length: twice as big as mokele-mbembe. The Cameroon people have creature they call le'ela-bembio. Its just like mokele-bembe but only bigger. Guess what its overall length is? Can you believe it? It is reported to be up to 70 feet long! That puts it very close to being the same size as its fossilized ancestors.6 What is the significance of alt this? According to evolutionists, the last of the dinosaurs died out 65 million years ago, but the Bible has stated all along that man was made right after the animals on the sixth day.18 The bottom line is that scripture has revealed that man and dinosaurs have lived together from the beginning about 6000 years ago.19If we shy away from a literal view of Genesis, what is to stop us from shying away from a literal view of other portions of scripture which reveal that God gives us eternal life in His Son? We at SBCSA encourage all our members to be bold witnesses for Christ knowing that the Bible is literal and science supports that fact! References
